Agaricus Newbie (1/5)

  1. The temperature is 30-40 degrees Fahrenheit. What kinds can grow on regular lawns in this kind of weather?
  2. Thank you for the information! I appreciate it. The mushrooms I found do look like the Cliticybe Dealbatas. I assume in such a small dog they would be toxic, as they can cause issues in humans... do you think I would have seen a change in him if he had eaten one about 1 day and a half ago?
  3. Thank you for the information! It does look like those.. The ball that is attached at the end of the stem. I guess it is where they grow out of?
  4. Hello all, Thanks for the replies I got on my last post. Different mushrooms keep popping up in my yard. Could someone please help me identify these? I am afraid they might be the death caps or some type of poisonous ones. Some more about them- Appears to be no skirt on the stem, though these might be young ones. Looks like it has an egg sack. Cap does not pop off, but tear or rip off the stem. Feels kind of tough/rough. Cap a bit larger than a quarter. Small one about the size of a quarter. Stem is a cream/white. Cap is a toastish brown. It was pretty warm today. These were again, near the stones except in my backyard. Pine trees (young) about 5 ft. away from the sight. Oak tree about 20 ft. These were a pair of 2. The first one I picked out of the grass, it ripped out. There was no dirt attached (I guess this means egg sack). Second one I dig out. Dirt attached, looks like an egg sack. The caps go upward, then curve down on the ends. Here are some pictures. Sorry they are a bit blurry. I check for mushrooms before I walk my puppy every time, but I keep missing them. The lawn was cut just hours ago as well..... Thank you for any help!
  5. Thank you... he didn't throw up after the hydrogen peroxide though.. 10 hours later he vomited. It does look similar.
  6. Update on my dog- took him to the vet, he was diagnosed with acute gastritis (his stomach was inflamed and had gas). I am not sure if this was caused by the hydrogen peroxide I gave him to try to induce vomiting, or if it was from the mushroom. It could be either, but I only gave him at most 2 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide. The throwing up may have been caused by the gastritis, but it could also be from the mushroom. He got blood work done and his organs look normal. We are going again tonight for more blood work. If this was the poisonous death cap or destroying angel, would he have shown more symptoms? It has been about 50 hours. I was searching the Leucoagaricus mushrooms and one website said it was "California fungi". I do not live in California, but in Pennsylvania. I do have an oak tree in my yard, but it is by the mailbox which is at least 10 feet away any from the front door and arborvitae bushes. The oak tree is also pretty small. Some new mushrooms popped up today near the oak tree. They are more brown in color... I can't see the stems yet, so I am not sure how tall they are but the ones my dog possibly ate were more white. Is it common to have different types of mushrooms in your yard? I kept the mushrooms my dog may have eaten on the stone and now they look very small... the heads are probably about the size of a quarter. They probably are smaller now that they haven't been in the ground though. It seems like the Leucoagaricus are larger than them. Are the death caps and destroying angels small or larger than the Leucoagaricus ones? I contacted some mycologists and got mixed answers. One or two said the death cap while some others said Leucoagaricus. I just hope he turns out ok and there is no organ failure. I've read that can happen after the symptoms.. and it also concerns me that his throwing up came many hours after.
  7. Please help? My dog may have eaten one yesterday at 12:00pm. I took him to the vet after he started throwing up 10 hours later. His stomach had a gas pocket in it that may be caused my the mushroom. Do you think these are dangerous? I am concerned that they may be the "destroying angels" or the "Death Caps". I do live near woods, but I have 2 busy roads on both sides of my house, so the trees are not near my lawn. The mushrooms were next to the decorative stones and arborvitae bushes. It is not too cold, but not warm either. More on the side of crisp. My dog also was dehydrated. I just popped them out of the ground. Please, some input would be helpful. We are going to get the dog's bloodwork done tomorrow to see if anything toxic is in there, but I am afraid it may be too late by the time we get them done.
