dakotabob
I collected my first Laetiporus cincinnatus of the year today. While it may be a common find for many of you, here in NW North Dakota, oak trees are rare. So finding mushrooms associated with oaks is even harder. The closest oaks are 60 miles east of me. It was a nice young specimen and it is going to go great with some eggplant from my garden that I am cooking up tonight. I have collected chickens in this area before but this is the earliest that I have found them here.
Dave W
Wow... the earliest. I have found cincinnatus down here in PA in early June.
John Smalldridge
Nice! It's been a while since I found one here.
dakotabob
Hi Dave, part of not finding them any earlier is the fact that I am not around much during June. I am typically in Manitoba that month. Second is the rarity of oaks in this region. Third is that I only come to this area that has oaks when the farmer's markets start up their season.
