Correlation between Scarlet cups and Morels??

Well I took a little walk in the woods last night just to get a feel for what things were doing. Hoping to find some early Ramps but no luck there. I am starting to see Scarlet Cups popping up though, is there any timing between them and morels? Granted it was snowing at the time, and we had a few small snow showers in the past few days so I know they don't seem to mind the cold like Morels. Either way was nice to see some fungus in the woods after a long winter.

Don't know if a scarlet cup is the same as a devils urn, but I've read that when you see the mature devils urn, the morels are short to follow. Went out yesterday for a look and saw ramps, mayapples and many flowers. We are real close to morels here in Michiana.

MushroomExpert says Sarcoscypha austriaca (one type of scarlet cup) is a spring mushroom. I don't find it here in NE PA. The only one I find here is S. occidentalis, which shows up well after the morels have disappeared.

Like CWlake says, there seems to be a correlation between Devil's Urns (Urnula craterium) and the coming of the morels (7-10 days before the black morels in a couple of my spots).

Cool, yeah I've ran into Devil's Urns while hunting Morels in the the northern part of the state, I live in Central MN and really don't see them much....now I need to keep my eyes though.

The scarlet cups are small all winter here in Nebraska and then grow bigger about a month before the morels start. I don't think the timing is intimately tied however. Good temperature progression indicator though.
