eat-bolete
Local store store selling "hedgehog" mushrooms:)
Dave W
A mislabeling of a package of chanterelles. I imagine that, when packaged as such in shrink-wrap, chanterelles have a short shelf-life. Beware of decaying material.
Tasso
In my local store I have seen the opposite: hedgehogs labeled as chanterelles. Both the chanties and hogs I see always look half decayed and are priced at $30.00 a lb. I can't help wondering who buys them.
Old Oak
Ignorance is bliss...especially when you get to throw away an exorbitant amount of money on it.
John Smalldridge
This makes me thankful that I have the time, knowledge, and resources to go and collect my own mushrooms.
eat-bolete
For such hefty price one should definitely expect a fresher product. Strange that they sell them now, when they are not in season.
Tasso
Both chanterelles and hedgehogs are in season in the Pacific NW. Lots of commercial picking done in CA., WA., OR., and BC. As perishable as mushrooms are, they rarely look good after the long trip from the West Coast.
