The Vault Dweller
I found these in early November two years ago while hiking the trail to the Boulder Field of Hickory Run State Park. I'd like to point out I was somewhat new to the hobby/study when I found these so I didn't think to remove them (to see their base) or slice them in half (to see the interior). Please and thanks. Dave W
Not puffballs. This is a Slime Mold, probably Lycogala epidendrum... "Wolf's Milk Slime". Usually the small spheres are pink; occasionally gray. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lycogala_epidendrum I found some orangish ones the other day. Mwilkie
Another photo of the pink form from yesterday. Kind of fuzzy.
