alooney11
Hello anyone out there from North East PA finding any hens? Am I too late? Too early? I have a couple spots where I've found honey mushrooms before which contain lots of oak trees. Not looking for spots just wondering if my timing is correct. Dave W
There was a flush of hens about 3-4 weeks ago. Due to lack of rainfall, these mainly didn't grow very much. I did see a decent-sized one the other day that was way past prime. I think there will be another flush before the cold weather sets in. It may be worth checking spots soon. Another rain event would help.
alooney11
Great info! Just trying to decide weather to abandon spots or keep checking them. Just attached a photo I took yesterday, this was in a local park, looks like it might be an old hen. Dang!
Dave W
Maybe an old hen. Also, possibly an old Black Staining Polypore (Meripilus sumstinei).
