John Smalldridge
I found this on a walk the other day. It was growing on a hardwood stump. The smell was very mushroomy and the taste was mild to very slightly bitter. The stem was hollow and tough / stringy. Unfortunately, I could not get a spore print. Dave W
Megacollybia rodmanii, formerly Tricholomopsis platyphyllum. An early-starter. Grows on old downed wood, stumps, woody debris, or buried wood.

Dave W
No problem, John. These are actually kinda interesting. M. rodmanii usually has a large cap, unlike the small caps seen here. I'm still pretty sure about the ID. Did you have weather that recently turned hot/dry?
John Smalldridge
We've been in the high 50's to mid 70's with very sporadic rain. Next week is going to be in the eighties. Looks like no morels for me this year.
