dualsetters
Was able to get out for a walk today in the local wood a low and behold some of 4rums famous holiday oysters were waiting for me. Unfortunately I didn't have a knife or bag, but may return tomorrow if I have the time. Also found what appeared to be a chicken that possibly froze. It was white , but not falling apart as usual. Also found what was left of possibly Spongipellis pachyodon and Tremella foliacea.
John Smalldridge
It's nice to see the forum and it's members still active. I hope to make a post with a few of my recent finds if I can get my computer and my new camera to cooperate.
Dave W
I'm beginning to develop some serious Oyster-envy here There's one more spot I may check, but I won't have an opportunity until Wednesday... after the temps drop into the teensF. But I still plan to check. Weather forecast for this coming weekend calls for another low pressure to travel up along the western slopes of the Appalachians. Looks like another warmup/rain event for eastern NA. Interesting to see just how long these flushes of Oysters will continue. DS, Tremella is a good possibility for the jelly. Another one is Exidia, possibly E. recisa. I've seen quite a bit of this during the previous year or so. http://mushroomobserver.org/132249?q=2RtG9
dualsetters
I guess winter brings out those of us who really have a problem john I really didn't expect to see any today due to previous winter experiences. Thanks Dave. Does seem to be a good winter for oysters. I hope some find their way into your stew pot. Hoping a few ruffs and some shrooms find their way into mine this week.. dualsetters
Yeah, those do look similar to the E. recisa you posted. Funny you mentioned auricularia because I did note the similarities.
4rum
Dave I still can't believe the good fortune that's come my way. Seems like oysters are just growing on treeeeeeeees !!! This is my first year of really harvesting oysters. I'll not likely see another year like it. dualsetters ... unless it's a long way or a difficult walk, I'd definitely go back for this oysters. They look fresh and worth the effort. 'rum
