1left
This type of stump mushroom I haven't paid much attention to over the years, I suspect this is just the early stages of Hypholoma fasciculare, does it have any yellow gilled lookalikes? Dave W
Looks like a Gymnopilus to me. The ring on the stalk is too prominent for Hypholoma. Hypholoma has dark purplish brown spore print and Gymnopilus has rusty brown/orange spore print.
1left
Thanks Dave W, I'll check out the Gymnopilus group.
Feral Boy
The stalks on Hypholoma are usually more slender, proportionate to the caps.
